You might have seen from various sources that we have won the special lottery for the rights to Luis Gil.
As Robb Heineman just said on Twitter, we would like to have a conversation with Gil, his family and representation to see if he is interested in coming to Kansas City. As a 16-year-old from the west coast, we understand the special considerations in his contract with MLS and his initial desire to play closer to home with either Seattle Sounders FC or Real Salt Lake. Having said that, we have a world-class stadium project underway and innovative ownership. Peter Vermes has spoken with Gil's agent already today, and we are hopeful that he will be able to get to know our staff and our team. If Luis decides he would still like to stay out west, we will aggressively seek a trade with Seattle or RSL, but we would love the opportunity to have a conversation with him first.
Wizards Win Luis Gil Lottery

Gil for Keller.
I think it's an even swap, and it will certainly shore up our goalkeeper position - which is currently a bit shaky for my liking...
Luis Gil is worth far more than Keller! He has more marketability than Fredy Montero.
Teams in Europ want this Gil kid bad.
No way we let this kid slip away for less than a top class player.
Look fellas, he's 16 years old. He's just a "prospect" right now. Keller isn't going anywhere.
Play hardball ala toronto/mcbride. Mls is gonna try and force our hand here, but we gotta negotiate hard and either keep Gil or get a 1st round pick+ allocation money/SI spot.
Keller either plays in Seattle, or he retires. Period.
Wow, nothing like a bunch of really crazy fans out of touch with reality. Gil is a 16 yr old kid, he trialed with Arsenal, but they made no offer which is why he came back to MLS.
This kid has upside, but you all are nuts, You might get a second round pick and a little allocation money. No team is going to put a 16 year old who is 5'8" into their starting lineup. at the U17 level he scored 4 goals in 17 matches.
Better yet hold on to him and have another player on your roster that doesn't want to be there.
Yeah, sorry but no Keller for you, no Montero, no one you've heard of, but you might get some money and a 2nd rounder maybe even a 2nd round and a 3rd the following year. A 16 year old isn't worth that much. The level of talent is higher in the MLS then when Adu started playing, more then likely Gil will sit the bench for 1 to 2 years and play in the open cup and Concacaf Champions League. Then goes to Europe, he is just 16 so a move across the world is kind of a big step for him. When he is 19 he will go then.
so he doesnt want to come to the galaxy
5:40 anon, Gil was going to be a first round pick if he'd been in the draft. Why should we expect less just because you don't think he's worth it? I say play hard ball, if RSL or Seattle won't pay what we want screw them and just let Gil sit or play with us.
I wish somehow we manage to hang on to him
I don't really care where he ends up I just want what's best for him... and in my opinion that would not be to stay with the Wizards. I think he needs to go somewhere with a more respected and successful coach. Ala Sigi Schmid, Dominic Kinnear, Bruce Arena, Preki, etc. I think he would develop best with one of those coaches than with most the rest of the teams. Ideally we only want him to stay to play here a couple years and then move to Europe. Those would prepare him best to do that. That's just what I would want to see happen
I just can't understand why anyone would give something top-class for Gil.
He's not going to be a starter for a few years and even if he does end up panning out and turning into a good player then he'll probably then go to Europe. Montero? Keller? Pshaw. I don't think I'd be willing to give up Estrada.
How about Pete Vagenas?
Nobody is seriously suggesting Montero or Keller, but to think you'll only have to give a small allocation and late round draft pick for a player that was going to be a first round pick is short sighted on the part of the sounders.
I really don't think the Sounders have anything they'd be willing to give up. From what I see on their roster they don't really have any space for someone like him. If he doesn't want to stay with the Wizards then he will need to go to RSL if the Sounders were his only other option.
this Gil kid has probably 3-4 years before he will make significant contributions. The European club systems work totally different than the US development systems....so he trialed for Arsenal but they dont expect a 16yr old US boy to make immediate contributions. He probably wouldn't have contributed to any european club's 1st team until several years down the road...thats how the European clubs do it...they get kids young and actually develop them.....US depends on college experience and a SuperDraft rather than club development. A trial with Arsenal and a few decent U-17 appearances for the USA doesn't suddenly equal the equivalent value of proven international stars such as a Keller, Montero, etc, etc, etc.
I kinda hope we keep him and develop him into a contributing player though for KC.
Freddy Adu all over again? hmmm....could be interesting in KC for the next coupla years!
Montero is still a punk....why would we want him and his diving here anyway?
Beckerman or Findley for Gil. Hardee-har-har
He belongs in Europe (preferably in a U.K. academy / junion EPL team). Don't screw him up with hack and slash MLS. He's got skills that need to be cultivated.
Are we going to give him that in the USA? Fk no. Not yet.
He is a just a kid, family and homesickness could become an issue- but if he was willing to live in England, Kansas City is a step up- food and women to name two. People and weather to name another two. Media pressure and no culture shock to name another two...and they tell two people, and they tell two people, Seriously though, Kansas City women, MUAH!!(finger tips to lips kiss gesture) Da Besta.
I hope Seattle passes, his attitude going in is not good. If it was me I would be exited just to get the pro contract. KC has a lot of up side he should stay there. The new stadium looks fantastic!
The kid definitely has talent and potential therefore he has value to KC. The Wizards management should try to retain him but ultimately respect Gil's wishes. A mix of draft picks and money would be fine since we already have a bunch of new faces in camp and hopefully other targets out there.
we don't want him. you can keep him down there in the siberia of the mls, kc. and i think it's funny how kc fans think they have any real leverage. kc doesn't have any leverage. seattle and rsl can offer a bag of peanuts, and kc HAS to accept one of them. kc will never get a player like findley or montero, and gil will never play in that wasteland in front of all of those 5 total fans.
^^^
Dude, you're an obvious idiot. Why do you think KC has no leverage? Remember the Brian McBride deal? Oh maybe you weren't alive yet, since it's obvious you were born yesterday. KC's stadium is going to be way better than your NFL fake turf stadium anyway. Go back to your Seattle "we love ourselves" world and stay there if you have nothing practical to say.
Our NFL fake turf has more fans than most of the teams in Europe. If i remember correctly, wasn't it KC that went nuts when they beat Seattle 1-0 while losing our starting keeper early in the match? I think you guys need to hold onto who ever you can get. Best of luck with your new stadium, I hope you can draw even 10,000 fans
KC can have Tyson Wahl back - SEA has 10 Defenders in camp right now
Seattle bath house favor boy is trying to take low blows at KC...take a hike on Mt. Hood and get lost precious.(Predictions) Seattle won't win this year, Fredie L. gets hurt on your turf, Fredy M. changes his haricut and demands a trade, fragile Zakuani's not scary at all, all in preparation to get sandwich boofed by Vancouver and Portland...enjoy that Tyson Wahl who, did he even play? I ain't afraid of no coast!- I want St. Louis to get a team and develop a rivalry with us... they know how to be fans...Something that is apparently a new theme in Seattle.
When buying a lottery ticket should I allow the lotto numbers randomly or chose them myself? I want to improve my chance of winning, some stats online show that people who pick their own numbers win more, is it true?
