Peter Vermes will retain both the Technical Director and Head Coaching roles going forward, with the new title of Manager encompassing both responsibilities. We announced the move today at our Swope Park Training Center, streaming the event live on Justin.tv. Apologies to those who endured audio difficulties. Hopefully the live streaming experiment was, overall, a success. For more information, read the full press release at our website. Let us know what you think about the move in the comments section below.

Wizards Name Vermes Manager

3 years of futility now look to become 4.
Roster overhaul coming up? By any chance is it like the 2007 overhaul that Vermes oversaw?
No season tickets for me, despite the "perks"
dumb move
In other news, Preki is not returning to Chivas USA next year. Craptastic job KC. BRING PREKI HOME!
yeah, he was a great technical director, so it makes sense to hire him as head coach now. Oh wait, that's right, he was a terrible technical director. Typical Wizards.
Let's see children...Preki has won exactly what as coach? IIRC he is 0-3 in playoff series...yeah, great coach. I prefer to keep his memory in KC as a winner.
Wow, anon 1 way to keep up the stereotype that KC is a fairweather sports town.
I don't want Preki, AndyMead and kuhnscoot on bigsoccer have it right there are too many questions about the way his teams train with the continuous injury crisis they have at Chivas.
Last Anon. Way to push the team to put out a better product. Let just keep waving the party flag and giving them money for a sub standard product. Did we suddenly become the Chiefs or the was it the Royals.
Preki might not be the choice, Vermes definitely NOT the choice.
Meh...
I just hope he's on a short leash. I say give him a year to see if he can win with "his players".
If the 2010 season looks anything like 2009 did, then there's nobody to blame but PV.
Josh so we should all just stop supporting the team until they put a better product on the field?
YAY for fairweather fans.
Play got quite a bit better, even if results only slightly improved. I think he will do a good job. Yes its not the "sexy" pick, I was a bit dissapointed at first the more I chew on it the more I like it.
@Last Anon
Not buying STs doesn't mean not supporting the team. Just because you can afford the STs doesn't mean all of us can't and when we plan on making that sort of investment you want something in return.
Good for you that you can pay the money for a crappy product. I pay my cable on time every month, and I will watch every game on Metro Sports and cheer with the best of them. I show my dissapointment by not forking over my hard earned money for a team that has had less 47%, 45% and 37% success/winning rate with the Onalfo/Vermes tandum. With your way of thinking we should all flock, yes flock, to Arrowhead and support the Chiefs every weekend they are home? If you keep going and don't say anything they will continue to put a crappy product out.
BTW, did you notice the press release; nothing about his TD or Coaching accomplishments, only what he did as a player. He sucked as a coach and he sucked as a TD, but apparently does run "youth soccer" well. Even the guy that took over for Osorio had a better winning percentage than PV with a crappier team.
Nobody says you have the blue blinders on but just because you disagree with the choice doesn't make you a "fair weather fan". It shows your soccer savy when it's something done everywhere else to show the fan's disgust with the team; Portsmouth fans recent boycott ring a bell?
